My Journey to becoming a Master Key
This leadership portfolio outlines my journey towards becoming a master key. While many tout the importance of finding the key to life, the key to success, or the key to happiness, what is rarely discussed is that while a key may grant access to a specific place, it has limitations inherent in its design to restrict what it may access; a master key, on the other hand, is a key that can open many locks.
Within the realm of education, it has become quite evident through my professional experience, as well as through my participation in the Educational Leadership Program at California State University Channel Islands, that the people one interacts with are all different, with respect to their experiences and needs. When I think of the impact I want to make within the realm of education as a leader, I have never focused my efforts on learning a specific skill set that may grant me access to helping a single individual, but rather I have strived to develop a diverse skillset with a solid foundation which will allow me to help many. I see each student as a unique lock, each requiring a specific key that can help them to get to where they would like to be. Through my development, it is my hope that as a master key I will be able to aid many and touch the lives of all those I come into contact with, not just a select few.
